Every minute that you spend with your child is significant. You’re on stage, so to speak, influencing them by your words and behavior—whether you want to or not.
Listen a moment. The “scene” is talking lace next door. (Or is it?)
“Lisa, breakfast’s ready. Quit your dilly-dallying, and come right now.”
Silence.
“Lisa, if you don’t come this minute, I’m going to give you a spanking you’ll never forget.”
Lisa wanders in slowly with her shoes in her hand.
“Cant you ever come when you’re first called? You’re going to make me late for my meeting, and it’s all going to be your fault. Why do you have your shoes in your hands? Shoes are to be put on your feet.”
“Hungry. Drink your milk.” Silence. “I said drink your milk, not spill it all over the table. How can you be so clumsy?”
Fighting dengue at home

We’re so occupied with H1N1 we seem to have forgotten what experts say is a more deadly disease: dengue. To prevent dengue at home, a reader has come up with this homemade recipe for a mosquito trap: It’s just a mix of water, brown sugar, and yeast.
Here’s the procedure:
Cut a plastic bottle (can be a soft drink bottle) in half, keep both parts. Take the lower portion of the bottle. Dissolve the brown sugar in hot water. Let it cool down to ~70°F. Add the yeast. Carbon dioxide will form (this will attract the mosquitoes). Cover the bottle with a dark wrap and insert in the top portion upside down like a funnel. Place it in a corner in your house. In two weeks, you will be surprised by the number of mosquitoes killed.
Of the major inventions that have come upon us today, there are two which I considered civilization’s leap for humanity and man’s transcendental mastery of the law of the physical world. I am referring to the telephone and the Internet. I subscribe to the fact that both the telephone and the Internet have contributed a lot to the furtherance of human understanding as to the interconnectedness of people and to the continuous quest of technology to revolutionize communication in the global scale. Needless to say, the world has shrunk and has become a little global village with the advent of the telephone and the Internet. Qwest, an excellent service provider for phone and internet connection, knows this to be an impeccable reality.
Nonsmoking women who consume more than 300 mg. of caffeine daily reduce their monthly chance of conception by 26 percent. This is a new study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology’s latest issue. Caffeine disrupts the menstrual cycle and leads to early pregnancy loss.
Dr. Neil Stine, cardiologist at Northern University School of Medicine in Chicago, said that heavy coffee drinkers are more likely to smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol and lead more sedentary lifestyles.
Cleanliness and sanitation in offices and establishments are two important things that should be given full attention by the management. If the office or the working area is clean and tidy, it will attract more clients, customers or people who patronize the products or services of said establishment. People tend to have a natural liking to a place where they can breathe fresh air and where no eye sore whatever exists. Strictly speaking, cleanliness is definitely a virtue whether at home, workplace or in school. The fact that rooms, offices, etc should be tidy and orderly cannot be ignored in the sense that the state of hygiene or sanitation of a place is one which tells about the personality of the occupants.
Young children shouldn’t use more than the recommended “pea-size” amount of toothpaste, and they shouldn’t swallow it. While fluoride is important in protecting teeth, the large amounts found in toothpaste, if swallowed frequently, can discolor permanent tooth enamel. Children are more likely to swallow toothpastes flavored to appeal them.
So, you’re among those who bite their nails. Careful, my friend. Nail biting is a habit that may be harmful to your …teeth! It can lead to tooth wear, root problems, trauma, to the gums, and the spread of skin infections to the mouth.
Making children was their hands pays off. Recently half of a group of elementary students were made to wash their hands four times a day, while the rest were left to their own devices. Seven weeks later the supervised hand washers had missed fewer school days, while the unsupervised group had more coughs, colds, and gastrointestinal problems.
Do you know the saying that when you laugh, the whole world laughs with you and when you cry, you cry alone. Staying happy and jovial is one way of coping with the stress in life. According to some health studies conducted, people with happy and breezy disposition in life tend to live longer and enjoy life better than those who spend their hours brooding over their failures and thinking of what could have been, with their ifs and buts haunting them like ghosts.
Poison Ivy and other invasive, nuisance plants, such as Poison Oak and Poison Sumac are spreading and flourishing due in part to global warming and the ever-changing climate. With the increase in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, these plant species are growing larger, covering wider areas, and packing more poisonous, skin-irritating oils than ever before.
This means it’s getting harder and harder to go outdoors and not come in contact with this aggravation. People who’ve come in contact with Poison Ivy are seeing not only an increase in the size of the Poison Ivy rashes, but also the redness, blisters and itching that usually accompany a Poison Ivy reaction.
